Hey hey hey. My name is Becca Rashid. I'm the host and producer of The Atlantic's podcast How To Keep Time, a producer, and a singer-songwriter.
As a career journalist, my journey to embracing myself as an artist was long and winding. I always felt more comfortable sharing the stories of others rather than my own. My debut EP, Myth of Autonomy, came out in summer 2025.
The songs explore the core themes of my life: self-doubt, older daughter responsibility trauma, and loneliness. The album is my journey trying to repair a fractured identity that came from always contorting myself into a respectable member of society, or someone sexy, all while trying to live up to the expectations of culture. But whose culture? I couldn't even tell ya.
Myth of Autonomy is a six-track, self-produced record, created in the fancy studio known as my mother's living room, drawn from a large catalog of songs I'd been sitting on for about five years while working full-time as a reporter and producer at MSNBC and The Atlantic.
In all my work as a producer, artist, or whatever title feels appropriate, I try to bridge the culture and identity gap, both in music and in my own life, by pairing the melodic ease of Bengali music with the rhythmic flow of R&B, hip hop, and neo-soul. I'm driven by the power of music to force introspection through sound, the same way my writing and reporting as a journalist let me do it through words.
